After 30 years working in hospitals on the west side of Cleveland, Alice, at the age of 50, returned to school at Lorain Community College to become a Registered Nurse. Though having been out of the classroom for a long time, she persevered in her studies while continuing her nursing position and attending to her role as a mother and grandmother. As a nurse, Alice was conscientious and thorough in every aspect of her responsibilities. Less experienced nurses continuously turned to her for guidance, which she willingly provided. She loved nursing and often talked about her experiences with family and friends. Her work was grounded in the premise that the needs of the patient always come first. It was not uncommon for her to be approached outside the hospital by a person she previously cared for who wanted to thank her for her kindness, care and support.
